Sponsorship Opportunities

Summary

Introduction

OSDC is a young yet popular annual conference, running successful events in Melbourne over the last three years. The 2006 edition featured over 180 attendees, 60 speakers, and 3 parallel tracks over 3 days, preceded by a tutorial day. Entry for delegates is kept easy by maintaining a low registration fee (approx $300), which always includes the conference dinner.

OSDC focuses on Open Source developers building solutions directly for customers and other end users, anything goes as long as the code or the development platform is Open Source. OSDC deals with a wide range of topics including web applications (web 2.0, Ajax, Javascript, tools), programming and scripting languages, development processes, OSS licensing, business models and strategy, and applied OSS tools and business case studies.

OSDC 2007 will be held in Brisbane, Monday 26 to Thursday 29 November, in the Royal on the Park Hotel near the City Botanical Gardens. The organisers are very pleased to have secured such a quality venue for the event, as well as seeing the huge local interest from developers, universities, businesses, and the Queensland Government. Building on the success of previous years, OSDC 2007 is expected to attract over 200 delegates, and an extra 4th track has been planned for.

The OSDC 2007 budget is self-sufficient based on delegate registrations, however sponsorships can enhance the range and quality of the activities planned, and additional speakers attracted. For sponsors, OSDC is an excellent opportunity for gaining (additional) brand exposure and interacting directly with an influential group of (mainly Australian) Open Source developers, which we know often lead even in global endeavours.

Sponsoring OSDC is not just a hip thing to do at a time where Open Source development is a hot topic, it is an efficient and smart investment in a booming industry. Any surplus funds from OSDC 2007 will of course be used for future OSDC conferences, and other activities directly benefiting OSS developers in Australia.

Sponsor Details

Sponsorships are related to specific parts of the conference, such as the daily catering needs, conference rooms, topic tracks, and so on. Individual items range from $1k to $10k, enabling organisations of all sizes to get involved, and allowing them to select a single item or a package that best matches their particular brand and marketing objectives.

Sponsoring is acknowledged at each specific sponsored event with appropriate mention and/or banner, also providing the sponsor representative(s) with opportunity to be the exclusive focal point for interaction with delegates for the duration of that event. OSDC does not have an exhibitor area, as it is thought that this can be a drain on resources specifically for smaller business, and focused direct interaction is more beneficial to all parties.

Sponsors and donors are acknowledged once the signed agreement is in place, so more exposure can be gained through early commitment.

Please see the following section for an overview of some of the opportunities. To discuss details, we encourage you to talk with our Sponsorship Liaison directly as there are ample possibilities. Please note that we have to operate on a first-come-first serve basis (sponsors already confirmed), we know that particular events are especially popular for sponsorships. Also, some package offers may become unavailable as other sponsors commit to conflicting packages. Please do act early to avoid disappointment.

Speaker Travel Fund

Not a sponsorship, but a contribution/donor arrangement. $500 or more/multiples. In specific instances it may be possible to “adopt” a speaker, this depends on speakers being accepted to the program and a decision on the link being appropriate. No influence over program content is possible. Donors to the Speakers Travel Fund will be acknowledged (unless an anonymous donation is desired) in conference communications (emails, conference web site, conference proceedings and during the event).

Sponsorship Targets

Prices indicated per component. Please note that OSDC is a non-profit organisation not registered for GST and thus all prices listed are GST exclusive, with no GST being collected.

To maximise the conference program quality and appeal, there are no keynote slots based on sponsorships. All program slots including keynotes are filled based on invites and (peer-reviewed) submissions. Suitable speakers working for a sponsor can of course independently be session, tutorial or keynote presenters, within these guidelines.
